Camp Kit Lists

Summer Camp (Full Week)

All personal kit to be packed in a soft bag – the best bags are hold-alls (rather than rucksacks) as they allow easy access to everything without having to empty everything into the tent!

Please mark all kit clearly.  Scouts should pack themselves (supervised ideally) so they know they have everything, and they know where everything is.

Please do not tie things to the outside of the bags as we’ll need to untie them before packing them. Please pack lightly – space is a premium!

Please triple-check everything is present – we do not have spare equipment and cannot do activities without the right stuff, meaning your scout may end up missing things if they do not have the right gear – and depending on numbers, this may mean other scouts are affected too.

Essentials:

  • Read the blurb above first!!
  • Sleeping bag
  • Watch – no 5am wakeups please!
  • Sleeping mat (the tents are not large enough for air beds)
  • Waterproof trousers and jacket with hood – in day-sack, not main bag – I cannot stress these two enough as we’ve been stung many times on camps before. Trousers that “dry quickly” are not waterproof – they absolutely must be waterproof overtrousers/overcoats – they’ll probably look shiny.
  • 3 or 4 Complete sets of clothes
    • Underwear (one set per day)
    • Trousers (ABSOLUTELY NOT jeans – once they’re wet, they’re very cold and don’t dry quickly)
    • T-Shirt
    • Jumper
    • Shorts
  • Swimming trunks
  • Towel
  • Wash kit – toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, flannel.
  • Medicines (if your child is asthmatic, they must bring inhalers)
  • Plate, bowl, cup
  • Knife, fork, spoon.
  • Scout Knife (Folding, not swiss army style)
  • Tea towel
  • Torch with spare batteries. Pack the batteries separately so they can’t run flat while in your bag.
  • Bin Liner (for wet kit)
  • Sun cream
  • Sun hat
  • Insect repellent
  • Money for Camp Bank to spend during trips – we’ll be stopping in the service station on the way up/down, and will be in civilisation once or twice during the week, (no more than £5 a day)
  • Small-ish backpack big enough to carry lunch, drink and waterproofs while hiking
  • Water bottle (ideally 1.5 litres, but must be at least 1 litre)
  • Packed lunch/snacks/drink for the journey out to camp on Saturday
  • Trainers
  • Walking Boots – MUST have decent ankle support
  • Walking Socks – thick socks that are long enough to stick out the top of the ankle-supported-shoes to avoid blisters
  • Trainers that will get drenched during water activities
  • Woollen hat
  • Warm gloves

Optional extras

  • Games/cards/frisbee/book/etc
  • Travel/compact pillow

Please leave at home

  • Phones, electronic items, and anything easily breakable.
  • Full-sized pillows
  • Food/snacks – other than packed lunch – food in tents attracts mice, as anyone who was on the camp 4 years ago will remember!

Please pack waterproofs and drinks bottle, along with the packed lunch, in the small day-sack so we can check everything before setting off....

Summer Weekend (Friday to Sunday)
